Administering justice is a key theme in the Bible. God expects His people to practice justice, as seen in scriptures like 1 Corinthians 6:2-3, where saints are called to judge the world and even angels. The question for us is: are we practicing justice in our daily lives?

In the business world, justice often aligns with legality—what is lawful is deemed just. However, laws can be exploited by those with resources, creating a system where justice is defined by loopholes rather than ethical principles. This results in a form of godliness but lacks true justice, as it misses the deeper meaning of righteousness and mercy.

God’s justice, as described in the Bible, goes beyond legalities. It’s not just about punishing wrongdoers but about cultivating well-being and mercy. The Hebrew word mishpat encapsulates this broader understanding of justice, involving fairness, mercy, and the well-being of all creation.

Isaiah contrasts justice with oppression (Isaiah 5:7) and calls for true justice that frees the oppressed and provides for the needy. God’s justice is redemptive, as reflected in the Day of Atonement, where mercy drives justice. The jubilee in God’s law represents a reset—restoring equality and hope. This is the justice Christ will administer as King: one that heals, redeems, and uplifts.

In God’s view, justice is not merely about punishment; it’s about creating a world of mercy, fairness, and righteousness.
