Consumed, Not Cherished: Rethinking Self-Image in a Culture of Exposure truthsum.org

I grew up hearing, “Men, stop viewing women as sexual objects.” It was needed. But today, another message is missing: Women, stop viewing yourselves that way too.

Our culture now celebrates exposure as empowerment. But when value is tied to how much you show, is that really freedom—or a more polished form of objectification?

Women are encouraged to display themselves for attention, but it often draws the wrong kind of interest—fleeting and shallow—while pushing away those who seek true connection. That’s not empowerment. That’s loss.

God offers a different vision:
“Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” (Proverbs 31:30)
“You are not your own… honor God with your body.” (1 Corinthians 6:19–20)

Modesty isn’t shame. It’s strength. It says, “I know my worth—and it’s not up for sale.”

To both women and men: let’s stop applauding self-objectification and start honoring the image of God in each other. You were made for more than attention. You were made for purpose.
