In this fourth addition, the author poses and then addresses the question, ‘Do I deserve to be here?’ It’s arguably the easiest among the three we’ve explored. No, you don’t deserve to be here. But that’s precisely the point. No one in the Church is flawless; none deserve to be here. Jesus Christ died for us because we couldn’t earn our place. However, when we ponder, ‘Do I really deserve to be here?’ it’s more about questioning if we belong. It’s about doubting God’s choice in selecting us, fearing we might not meet His expectations. But to believe God erred in calling you suggests He makes mistakes—a notion incompatible with His nature. He formed you and knows your heart; His call for you isn’t a mistake. In Revelation 7, believers emerge from tribulation with robes soiled by sin. Yet, they wash them in the blood of the Lamb, rendering them pure. This symbolizes Christ’s sacrifice cleansing us. While God maintains His standards, our righteousness doesn’t stem from flawless adherence. Paul emphasizes that righteousness comes through faith in Jesus Christ. It’s not about achieving perfection; it’s about accepting Christ’s sacrifice, which justifies us before God. This doesn’t absolve us of responsibility, but our righteousness isn’t earned through flawless obedience—it’s imputed through faith. Despite feeling unworthy like Paul, who once persecuted the Church, we’re assured of God’s promise. Like those in Revelation, we’re washed clean by Christ’s blood, not our own efforts. While we must strive to obey, our righteousness is through faith, not works. So, do you truly deserve to be here? No, but God wants you here.
