Does it matter to God how we spend our time – the decisions we make, the lives we lead, the paths we choose to follow? Analyzing scripture and the time dedicated to specific events would indicate that it does. Found in the Bible, there are very specific moments in time that focus and attention is given while other expanses of time are given little to no attention. One such example are the eleven months that Israel camped at the base of Mt. Sinai. Within these months, covered in fifty-nine chapters, we get the Ten Commandments. We get the layout and the function of the tabernacle. We get insight into sacrifices and priestly duties and dozens upon dozens of statutes, precepts, and commandments detailing what it means to live a godly way of life. Contrast that with the forty years that Israel wandered in the wilderness. This punishment resulted in a generation of Israel dying outside the Promised Land because they rejected God. This time is covered in twenty-two chapters. Even more telling, the first five books of the Bible span a time period of about two thousand five hundred years. God used one of those books and significant portions of two others to tell us about what happened during a span of months. We are shown what matters to God. By extension, we can choose to listen to God and take lead from Him. The time we are given should be spent learning and practicing what it is to trust God.
